When the Academy Award’s red carpets roll out, we’re bound to see our favorite stars rocking designer ensembles and eagerly awaiting who wins the coveted Oscar. We’ve seen a lot happen at the Oscars, from people streaking during the host’s speech to some powerful political speeches. However, something we barely ever see is a member of the Royal family attending the Oscars.
We’ve seen Kate Middleton and Prince William attend the BAFTAs before, but there have only been a handful of times where a member of a royal family attends the Oscars. This year, rumor has it that all that could change with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry allegedly scoring an invite — and whispers even suggest they’ve been asked to present the best picture award.
Other rumors, however, suggest the Sussexes will be far away from Hollywood’s biggest night given Kristen Stewart’s nomination for her role as Princess Diana in Spencer — an artistic portrayal of Harry’s mother’s demise in the royal family from which he may have preferred to avert his eyes.
And while Diana herself never attended the Oscars (what a royal look that would have been!), other beloved royals like Grace Kelly and Princess Charlene of Monaco have. Here’s a look back at every royal family member who’s attended the Academy Awards below.
