Whoever thought of Galentine’s Day (Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation) is a genius. It’s actually shocking that, until about 10 years ago, there wasn’t a dedicated day on the calendar to celebrate female friendship — when clearly, it’s the glue that holds our society together. Where would any of us be without our friendships? We think you should be celebrating your best friends 365 days a year, so: what better way to do that than with a BFF-themed movie marathon?
There are so many classic films about the importance (and all-around amazingness) of close female friendships. From Bridesmaids to Thelma & Louise, movies have always been inspired by the world of female besties and their adventures, and there’s no one better to watch than with your BFFs.
Valentine’s Day can be a hit-or-miss holiday, bogged down in our society’s insistence that there’s something wrong with you if you don’t have a romantic relationship to celebrate in mid-February. And while romantic love is all very well and good, this time of year shows very little love for our other great loves: the friends that get us through it all.
Not to sound like too much of a Charlotte (yes, the Sex and the City movie is on this list too), but maybe our friends can actually be our soulmates — on Galentine’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and every other day of the year too. Galentine’s Day can be a good reminder that love is all around us, and these movies are a good reminder too.
Here are 15 movies perfect to watch with your friends on Galentine’s Day (or any time at all). Enjoy!
