Kylie Kelce is constantly surrounded by young women. She is a girl mom to three daughters — Wyatt, 4, Elliotte, 2, and Bennett, almost 1, who she shares with NFL star Jason Kelce — and a high school varsity field hockey coach outside of Philadelphia. So it’s no wonder she told Good Morning America she’s now “hyper-aware” of how she talks about herself and her body.
“I think it’s important to model that positive body talk about yourself because then they are taking that away from what you’re doing,” she said while promoting her partnership with Dove and their campaign to raise self-esteem among young athletes.
You might be thinking that all sounds easier said than done, but Kylie’s strategy proves otherwise. It doesn’t take a lot to instill more confidence in her girls.
“We’re making it a point now to emphasize a positive tone when we talk about anything body-wise,” she continued. “Like our one daughter will sort of rub her belly and I’m like, ‘Oh, that is the most beautiful belly I’ve ever seen.'”
It’s so simple, yet so impactful. Complimenting her daughters and making sure she’s saying kind things about her own body in front of them will plant the seeds for a body-positive future. Because if your mom is proud of and comfortable in her own skin, it’s easier to feel that way about yourself. But if you hear her pointing out her flaws? Well, that’s an easy habit to mimic too.
What About Dad’s Body?
Jason Kelce is part of the body conversations too. Albeit, in a different way. Last week, Jason infamously became the Kansas City Chiefs’ “NO. 1 HYPE MAN” by having the most epic shirtless celebrations every time his brother Travis Kelce’s team scored against the Buffalo Bills. The camera kept cutting to his antics and photos and videos of the center for the Philadelphia Eagles quickly circulated around social media.
After the game, Jason posted a photo on X of a phone screen with a text from “Maaaa.”
“Ellie said ‘Dad’s boobs are showing’!” the text said.
At the time, we (and much of the internet) thought the toddler was roasting the big guy, but maybe she was just talking about his body the way they do in the Kelce household. Acknowledging that bellies and “boobs” exist. And while it might be strange she could have said her dad’s “boobs” were beautiful, it would be a wonderful sign that Kylie’s actions are having the intended impact.
