Miley Cyrus’s Viral Grammys Acceptance Speech Has Refueled Feud Rumors With This Member of Her Family

Last night at the 2024 Grammys, all eyes were on Miley Cyrus. Not only did she rock five separate, sparkling and showstopping looks throughout the night, but she won two Grammys for the first time in her career. On Feb 5, she accepted the awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her iconic hit song “Flowers.” And while accepting her first Grammy, she made a speech that many fans have been dissecting. Why? Because it seems as though she snubbed her father Billy Ray Cyrus.

During her speech at the Grammys, Miley thanked a plethora of people. “My mommy, my sister, my love, my main gays because look how good I look,” she said, referring to her mother Tish Cyrus, her sister Brandi Cyrus, her partner Maxx Morando and her stylists, per People. “I don’t think I forgot anyone — but I might have forgotten underwear. Bye!”

Now, this speech was both so Miley, and also may have been a snub at Billy Ray because not only was he nowhere to be found that night, but she didn’t mention her father once.

To be fair, she didn’t mention a lot of people in her life, but this has refueled the estrangement rumors.

So, for those who may not know, Miley’s parents, Tish and Billy Ray, were together from 1993 to 2022, and they split up quite a few times before Tish called it quits for good. Billy Ray filed for divorce in 2010, but reconciled a year later in 2011. But then Tish filed for divorce in June 2013, reconciling a month later. However, in April 2022, Tish filed for divorce once again, revealing that the two have been separated for the past two years. It was later finalized.

Since then, Billy Ray has gotten married to a singer named Firerose, who is 34 years old, which is only three years older than Miley, and has reportedly been the center of their estrangement. (Tish has also remarried with actor Dominic Purcell, and Miley was a major part of their wedding, so no bad blood there.)

Back in late 2022, sources told E! News that Miley had gotten closer to Tish after her parent’s divorce. “The divorce between [Miley’s] parents [has] put a strain on her relationship with her dad and it’s been hard to connect with him in the last year,” they said. “She, of course, hopes he is happy, but Miley has been closer to her mom Tish throughout the divorce.”

So the divorce plus his relationship with someone so close to his daughter’s age has reportedly caused some strife with the family, and it seems as though Miley and Billy Ray are still estranged as of Feb 5, 2024.
