By now, we all know that it doesn’t take much for an internet rumor to gain traction online. After all, we were all convinced Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were heading to a divorce after their lip-reading incident at the 2024 Golden Globes. But, that lip-reading incident aside, we can’t help but get carried away with online conspiracy theories time and time again.
And, most recently, Kate Middleton has been the single most talked-about person on X (formerly known as Twitter) as users attempt to answer one main question: what has she been doing for the past two months?
While official Palace sources revealed the Princess of Wales underwent abdominal surgery and has been taking time off to recover, the internet is in a frenzy as they come up with alternative theories.
For starters, a series of tweets are claiming Middleton did undergo surgery, but not an abdominal one and underwent plastic surgery instead. “Kate Middleton sashaying into the next family gathering after recovering from her BBL surgery,” one user wrote. “Kate Middleton when she returns and reveals her buccal fat removal results,” theorized another.
Another theory, which is luckily a little less extreme, says that Middleton isn’t recovering from surgery and is just growing out her hair from a terrible haircut instead. “for all we know kate middleton could be looking like this right now,” wrote one user alongside a picture of Sian Clifford in Fleabag.

In two other more far-fetched theories, a few users have connected Middleton to the failed Willy Wonka experience that happened over the weekend in Glasgow, Scotland. Given Middleton’s proximity to the country, some have joked maybe she could be behind (or in) the disaster. “BREAKING: Kate Middleton has been spotted at the Willy Wonka experience in Glasgow,” wrote one user alongside photoshopped pictures of her at the event.
Lastly, users also theorized that Middleton’s absence would be explained if she were none other than anonymous street artist Banksy. “Banksy dropping his anonymity to dispel the rumors that he is, in fact, Kate Middleton,” wrote one user.

Knowing that all of these are just made-up conspiracy theories from the internet, it’s safe to say the royal will have a lot to catch up to when she’s back.
