It’s hard to believe, but on Monday, Feb. 25, The Voice season 16 will be premiering on NBC. That means that since the show debuted back in 2011, the popular reality television singing competition has crowned 15 talented singers as the winner of their respective seasons. Can you even believe it?
Over the years, the winners of The Voice have broken records on the show by being the youngest or oldest to ever win, have risen on the music charts and achieved great success, have released multiple albums and have gone on wildly successful tours, and they’ve all eked out a special place to call their own in popular culture. Being an alum of The Voice is no small feat, and these past winners definitely aren’t wasting their time in the spotlight.
Before a new season premieres and we eagerly wait to spot the frontrunner and see where they end up (Will they go with veteran judges Blake Shelton or Adam Levine? Or will they cozy up to new judge John Legend?), we thought it would be fun to check out where the past winners of The Voice are now. What are they up to? How do they spend their days?
Let’s take a look and find out.
-
Javier Colon
Season one winner Javier Colon has kept busy since winning in 2011. In the years since, Colon has released a third studio album, Come Through for You (he’d been a recording artist previous to The Voice and had released two albums), as well as a show titled Inside Voice on which he recapped ensuing seasons of The Voice. He has continued to release music, with his most recent album being 2016’s Gravity.
-
Jermaine Paul
Season two winner Jermaine Paul keeps a somewhat low profile these days, but he is still actively recording music and making public appearances. Paul released an album in the wake of his 2012 Voice win. On his Instagram, he frequently posts about his personal life, showing himself loving life alongside his wife, Melissa, and shows the world what he’s doing musically. Case in point: In early February 2019, he sang the national anthem at a New York Rangers hockey game.
-
Cassadee Pope
Cassadee Pope, who won season three of The Voice, has been steadily working on her music career and juggling the occasional appearance on the hit reality singing competition that crowned her. According to her official website, Pope has a new album out (her second studio album), Stages, and she’s currently on tour with country singer Maren Morris.
-
Danielle Bradbery
Season four winner Danielle Bradbery is sticking to her country roots. As of the beginning of 2019, she’s on tour with Kane Brown and Granger Smith for the “Live Forever Tour.” Between her season four win and now, Bradbery has also toured with country superstars like Miranda Lambert and Thomas Rhett.
Bradbery has also released two studio albums in connection with the record deal that came from her Voice win: 2013’s Danielle Bradbery and 2017’s I Don’t Believe We’ve Met.
-
Tessanne Chin
Tessanne Chin took home top honors on The Voice season five and since then has carved out a comfortable niche for herself living and performing in her home nation of Jamaica. After winning in 2013, Chin scored a major label deal and was named Caribbean Journal’s artist of the year. While she continues to write music and sing at various public events, Chin’s Instagram tells us she enjoys hanging out with her family and revels in the downtime between gigs.
-
Josh Kaufman
Josh Kaufman was the oldest winner of The Voice when he won season six back in 2014, but that doesn’t mean he’s slowed down in the years since.
After winning, Kaufman released his second studio album in 2016 and has continued to perform at various charitable events and concerts. He’s also had his hands full raising five kids with his wife, Jennifer, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
-
Craig Wayne Boyd
Craig Wayne Boyd (pictured far left) won season seven of The Voice and went on a 65-city tour shortly thereafter. The Team Blake alum has kept a steady career in the industry focusing on country music but hasn’t stayed in the limelight.
-
Sawyer Fredericks
One of the youngest winners in Voice history (winning when he was 16 years old), Sawyer Fredericks has steadily worked since winning season eight in 2015. To date, Fredericks has released two studio albums, A Good Storm and Hide Your Ghost, and has toured with each album.
-
Jordan Smith
Jordan Smith has had quite the colorful career since he won season nine of The Voice in 2015 while competing on Team Adam.
Smith is one of the highest-selling Voice winners, with numerous singles performed on the show. Similarly, two of the singles from the show, “Mary, Did You Know?” and “Hallelujah,” held the top two spots concurrently on the Billboard Christian Songs chart in 2015 — a first for any Christian singer.
Smith also revealed on his Instagram in 2018 that he wrote the song “Ashes” for the Deadpool 2 soundtrack, and it was performed by Céline Dion (so major!).
-
Alisan Porter
Already famous before she arrived on the scene for season 10 of The Voice, child actor Alisan Porter made big waves and won big during the season back in 2016.
Porter has kept a somewhat low profile following her win. From the looks of her Instagram, she still performs and releases music, but it’s slowed as she’s focused on her personal life. Her most recent single, “Deep Water,” was released in 2017.
-
Sundance Head
Team Blake winner Sundance Head took home the top prize for season 11 of The Voice and has stayed firmly in the realm of country music following his big win.
Since winning in 2016, Head has released singles like “Stained Glass and Neon” and, according to his Instagram, has been traveling across the country with Country Road Seminar to discuss his music and upcoming album.
-
Chris Blue
Season 12 winner Chris Blue is currently juggling duties as a partner to podcaster and TV presenter Steph Bee and his professional life as a performer. Blue has yet to release a post-Voice studio album, but he has performed live gigs, like an extended run at the Smoky Mountain Opry in 2019.
-
Chloe Kohanski
Since winning season 13 in 2017, Chloe Kohanski is still making music, but instead of finding it in the form of full-length studio albums, it can be found on her SoundCloud. Thanks to an Instagram tip, you can go over there to listen to her latest single, “Unlucky Valentine.”
-
Brynn Cartelli
Cartelli made The Voice history when she became the youngest-ever winner for season 14 in 2018. Since taking home the big win, Cartelli signed with Brandon Blackstock (husband to Voice judge Kelly Clarkson and manager of fellow Voice judge Blake Shelton) and accompanied Clarkson on her most recent tour, which kicked off in January 2019.
-
Chevel Shepherd
Chevel Shepherd won season 15 of The Voice and is still making her way into the music industry fresh off her big win. To date, her biggest achievement (in addition to winning the reality competition show) is the release of her single “Broken Hearts,” which came onto the scene in December 2018.
