Hoda Kotb is feeling the love. The TODAY co-anchor stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she revealed details of her engagement to longtime love Joel Schiffman, wedding plans, and whether or not she plans to grow her family. And while the answer to that last point isn’t quite clear, one thing is: Kotb is head over heels for both her groom-to-be and her two daughters.
Kotb even revealed how Schiffman proposed. It all went down at the beach while Kotb and Schiffman were downing tequila and eating churros (and to be honest, this already sounds like a dream proposal). “He literally kicked the seat out from under him and dropped down on one knee and I didn’t know I could be shocked. I actually didn’t know I could love him more…but I did,” Kotb shared. She also divulged a few wedding details: the nuptials are slated for the fall and will likely be low-key — just a few friends celebrating on a beach.
Of course, we expect Kotb’s two daughters will play major roles in the celebration. Kotb also opened up about welcoming her second child, Hope, her ten-month-old whom she adopted. “I feel like my life finally makes sense,” Kotb said. “I think I thought it did, but now when I get home after work Haley, my older one, jumps five feet, nine inches into my arms. I get that when I go home. And Hope smiles at me, and I said to Joel ‘I’ve worked my whole life, and my work has always ridden sidecar. And then all of a sudden I have clarity’.”
Kotb loves motherhood, but does that mean she’d like another child? She’s not saying no, “I don’t know. I’m not a hundred [percent] sure,” Kotb answered when asked if she’ll grow her family. “I was scribbling in my journal and I was asking myself that question and I wrote in there…’do we have enough love?’ And I wrote ‘yes’. I said ‘do we have enough time?’ and I wrote ‘yes’. And I said ‘would our family be more enhanced?’ And I wrote ‘yes’.”
Kotb, who is 55, expanded on why she’d love another. “When you’re parents later in life, watching Haley and Hope together, all I really want is for them to have someone to hold their hand forever. That’s it. That’s all I want….They’ll have each other.”
