Parenting is just a bunch of trying to get your kids to sleep in just a little bit in the mornings (5 a.m. is not an acceptable wake up time) and struggling to get your kids to wake up in the morning. Tweens and teens can sleep like no one’s business! David Beckham has firmly switched over to the sleepy pre-teen camp, and his latest video with daughter Harper Seven feels all too relatable.
The soccer star shared a video to Instagram waking his daughter up in a (literally) sweet way: with pancakes! “Love love love pancake day 🥞 maybe more than my kids 😂,” Beckham captioned the post. “Dads a little to early & maybe a little to excited 😆 fancy a pancake mum ? @victoriabeckham @brooklynpeltzbeckham @romeobeckham @cruzbeckham #HarperSeven 🥞🥞🥞🥞🩷🩷🩷🩷.”

Shrove Tuesday
Beckham holds a plate of British pancakes in his hand in the video. Unlike American pancakes, traditional British pancakes are similar to French crepes in that they are light and thin, and often served folded over with sugar and lemon juice drizzled on top, per Caroline’s Cooking. These are always served on Shrove Tuesday (or Fat Tuesday in America) as a way to use up the eggs and butter before they are commonly given up for Lent, which begins tomorrow.
“Harper Seven, it’s pancake day!” the Beckham star, who shares Harper and three sons with wife Victoria Beckham, says in the video. “Wakey, wakey!” he says as he gets closer to Harper. The 12-year-old is clearly more interested in bed than in pancakes because she just buries her head in her arms and rolls over in the bed.
“You just squashed the pancakes,” he jokes, making Harper look up to see the perfectly, non-squashed breakfast. “Love ya!” Beckham adds. She gives a mumbled “love you” back as she tries to rub the sleep out of her eyes. If only she was a toddler, she would be jumping for joy at pancakes in bed!
Daddy-Daughter Time
When she’s not sleeping, Harper always seems to have a good time with her dad. Back in December, she went to New York City with Beckham, where they bonded on a support beam looking over the NYC skyline. Another time, he shared a picture of him and Harper wearing identical boots as they worked in the garden together.

In Jan. 2022, Beckham posted about his reaction to his daughter’s first crush. (Hint: not excited.) “Roses are red🌹 Harper seven mentions she has a crush & this is daddy’s face 🤬🤬🤬,” he wrote on Instagram. “but it’s ok she said daddy you are my only valentine ❤️.”
Don’t worry, Beckham. Even though she’s growing up, Harper will always be a daddy’s girl!
