Following the release of a Black Album-Sonically seasoned whiskey, Metallica continues to celebrate the classic album’s 30th anniversary with a pair of limited edition Vans.
Metallica’s longtime album and merch artist Pushead, who has done many gnarled designs for the group since the late 1980s, contributed to the design of the duplicate skull originally inspired by the Breath Black album single “Sad But True”.
The pair of weathered skulls are featured prominently on the interior and exterior side panels of the Vans Sk8-Hi. For the Vans Classic Slip-On, the skulls are split between the toes of the left and right shoes.
Both silhouettes pit hardcore artwork against a burst blue graphic design alongside silver Metallica lettering and a Metallica logo imprinted on the heel, like Hypebeast Remarks.
The Vans x Metallica collaboration follows a series of Black album 30th anniversary celebrations. Besides the aforementioned whiskey, 53 artists including Miley Cyrus, Jon Pardi, Weezer, Corey Taylor and Portugal. The man. record covers of 12 Black album songs for The Metallica blacklist.
The collaborative release airs September 10 and arrives on CD and vinyl October 1. All profits will be donated to charity.
